Frequently asked questions
How long should hoarseness last before an ENT visit?+
Arrange assessment if it lasts more than three weeks. Smokers, professional voice users, or anyone with breathing difficulty, a neck lump, pain or blood should seek earlier review.
Does voice rest help?+
Relative voice rest, hydration and avoiding shouting or whispering can help overuse-related symptoms, but persistent hoarseness still needs examination.
Do voice disorders always need surgery?+
No. Voice hygiene, reflux care and speech/voice therapy are central for many conditions. Selected lesions or paralysis may need a procedure.
